Pierpaolo Mittica Photographer

Biography

Dr. Pierpaolo Mittica, dentist and an Italian freelance photo-reporter, was born in Pordenone (Italy) on August 6, 1971. He currently works for Trolley agency (London). In 1990 he took his diploma in the conservation, archiviation, technique and history of photography Masters Program at CRAF. He attended courses of photography given by Italo Zannier, of techniques of taking photographs with Gabriele Basilico, Paolo Gioli, Olivo Barbieri, the course of printing in black and white with Roberto Salbitani where he refined his technique. From 1995 he studied history of photography, printing technique, shooting and photographic composition, studies of the subject and the preparation of a reportage with Alfredo Fasan, Giuliano Borghesan, Charles – Henri Favrod, Naomi Rosenblum and Walter Rosenblum, student of Lewis Hine and Paul Strand, who is his spiritual father in photography. He realized social reportages in China, Vietnam, Cuba, Bosnia – Herzegovina, Kosovo, Ukraine, Belarus, India, Serbia, Indonesia. From 1997 to 1999 he realized a reportage on the post-war critical situation on the Balkans with the publication of a book entitled: “The Balkans, from Bosnia to Kosovo” edited by Interattiva, with the presentation written by Charles-Henri Favrod and the introduction by Predrag Matvejevic. From 2002 until 2007 he travelled regularly to Belarus and Ukraine to realize a work on the heritage of Chernobyl. From this reportage on 2006 a book was published in Spain by the Spanish editor Ellago Ediciones with the title: “Chernobyl la herencia oculta”. In 2007 the same book was published in Great Britain by the English editor Trolley LTD with the title: “Chernobyl the hidden legacy”. The book has the presentation written by Naomi Rosenblum and texts by Rosalie Bertell and Wladimir Tchertkoff. In 2006 this work was selected by the Chernobyl National Museum of Kiev (Ukraine) for the official exhibition for the twentieth anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

From 2002 until 2008 he travelled regularly to India to realize photographic works about many social aspects of India in 2009 he photographed the work in the sulphur mines in Indonesia

In 2006 he received the FVG Award. In 2009 he won the EIUC photography Competition. in 2010 the book "Chernobyl The Hidden Legacy" was recognized as a finalist in the "Pictures Of The Year International" Photo Contest in the category "Best Photography Book Award". From 2007 his photographs are distributed worldwide by Trolley (London).
